The Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford recently marked a historic milestone, celebrating 75 years of dedicated service to the Mohawk Valley with a celebratory ribbon cutting on September 9. Hosted by the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce, the public event served as a tribute to the organization’s evolution from a modest six bed home for the elderly and infirm back in 1951 into the sprawling medical complex it is today. A separate private gathering was also held on the Tilden Road campus to honor the legacy of those who helped build the institution.

Chief Executive Officer Christa Serafin expressed deep gratitude during the festivities, noting that caring for multiple generations of local families has been a profound honor. She credited the facility’s longevity to the enduring trust of its patients and the tireless commitment of its doctors, nurses, and support staff. While she acknowledged that their tools and buildings have changed dramatically over seven decades, Serafin emphasized that the central mission to inspire hope and facilitate healing has remained constant since day one.

Looking toward the future, Sitrin leadership used the anniversary as a platform to announce an ambitious expansion project aimed at filling a critical void in regional healthcare. The center plans to invest 17 million dollars into a new 40 bed memory care facility within its Cedarbrook Village Assisted Living and Enriched Housing Residence. This state of the art addition will specifically target residents battling Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other memory related challenges through strategic environmental design and specialized staffing.

The need for such a facility is pressing, as officials noted there are currently only four similar memory care options available across Oneida and Herkimer counties. By adding these specialized beds alongside their existing array of services—which include neuro specialty units for Huntington’s disease and ALS sowie comprehensive rehabilitation programs—Sitrin continues to solidify its role as a cornerstone of health and wellness for the entire region.
